In 1946 J.S. Smolian bought the 80 acres of land that now makes up the Town of Seaside, upon what was once thought to be a useless piece of land. The idea of creating a beach town with an old time feel reminiscent of past Northwest Florida architecture began and the eighty acres turned out to be the perfect size for a small town. All of Seaside, Florida is encompassed within a quarter–mile radius. A perfect distance for working, shopping, going to the beach and out to eat.
Since its inception in 1981 and humble beginnings on 30–A, the Town of Seaside has become the world famous centerpiece of Scenic 30–A. It is a popular destination for tourists and features many restaurants, a Chapel, shops and the Amphitheatre featuring concerts and events throughout the year.
The Town of Seaside features what many consider to be the “Downtown” of Scenic 30-A. This is where you find an abundance of shops, restaurants and cultural events.
The popular feature film “The Truman Show” was filmed in the Town of Seaside and is still a good way to see the architecture and feel of the town. Emphasis is placed on the front porch, pedestrians and bicycles, making the Town of Seaside one of the country’s most spectacular communities.
