In 1946 J.S. Smolian bought the 80 acres of land that is now Seaside, upon what was once thought to be a useless piece of land. Robert Davis inherited the property and after a successful real estate development career in Miami, came up with the idea of creating a beach town with an old time feel reminiscent of past Northwest Florida architecture. Eighty acres turned out to be the perfect size for a small town and all of Seaside is encompassed within a quarter mile radius. A perfect distance for working, shopping, going to the beach and out to eat.
Since it's inception in 1981 and humble beginnings from Mr. Davis selling lots from a car parked on 30-A, Seaside has become the world famous centerpiece of Scenic 30-A. It is a popular destination for tourists and features many restaurants, a Chapel, shops and the Amphitheatre featuring concerts and events throughout the year.
The popular feature film, "The Truman Show" was filmed in Seaside and is still a good way to see the architecture and feel of the town. Emphasis is placed on the front porch, pedestrians and bicycles, making Seaside one of the country's most spectacular communities.
